History of the NAN

In 1995, a great re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo was organised. Some Dutch napoleontic groups took part in the battle and co-operated during the event. This way, the groups could benefit from each other and co-ordinate their activities. After having co-orporated very well, the participating groups decided to found the Napoleontic Association of the Netherlands (NAN) with the goal to promote knowledge of the Napoleontic era in the largest sense.

When NAN was formed, about 50 people were a member of the associated groups.
Some of these groups were founded as demonstration groups, other as
re-enacting unions. During the course of time, all groups and their
activities had grown closer together. Therefor, after the succesful Waterloo
event, NAN could focus on providing services for all associated members.

This resulted in:
- organising national exercision days
- providing amunition and regulations
- exchanging dealer information
- buying material
- direct contact with the Ministerie van Justitie
- setting up safety regulations

NAN is itself a member of LPLG (National Platform for Living History).
